Zenova FX Fire Extinguisher Servicing and Maintenance

Like all portable fire extinguishers, Zenova FX Fire Extinguishers require regular inspection and maintenance to ensure they remain in good working condition and are ready for use in an emergency.

Routine servicing helps identify any damage, loss of pressure or other issues that could affect the extinguisher's performance. Keeping accurate maintenance records is also an important part of demonstrating compliance with workplace fire safety procedures.

Annual Visual Inspection

The Zenova FX range should undergo an annual visual service. During this inspection, the extinguisher is checked for signs of damage or deterioration and to confirm that it remains serviceable.

A typical visual inspection includes checking:

  • The pressure gauge is within the correct operating range.
  • The hose and nozzle are undamaged and unobstructed.
  • The cylinder is free from dents, corrosion or significant damage.
  • Safety seals and operating components are intact.
  • The extinguisher remains correctly positioned and accessible.

These inspections should be carried out by a competent person in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations and relevant British Standards.

Digital Inspection and Audit Management

One of the features of the Zenova FX range is its compatibility with a mobile inspection and management app.

Each extinguisher is fitted with a QR code that can be scanned using a smartphone or tablet. This allows organisations to:

  • Register individual extinguishers.
  • Record routine inspections.
  • Maintain digital servicing records.
  • Create an audit trail for compliance purposes.
  • Support ongoing fire safety management.

Digital records can make it easier to demonstrate that inspections have been completed and may assist when reviewing fire risk assessments.

Five-Year Extended Service

After approximately five years of service, Zenova FX extinguishers undergo an extended maintenance procedure.

This process includes:

  • Safely depressurising the extinguisher.
  • Removing the extinguishing agent.
  • Inspecting the inside and outside of the cylinder for corrosion or damage.
  • Confirming the extinguisher continues to meet the required standard.
  • Refilling the extinguisher with the approved extinguishing agent and returning it to service.

Following this extended service, the extinguisher can continue in service, giving the unit an expected operational life of up to ten years, subject to continued inspection and maintenance.

Environmentally Responsible Disposal

The cylinders used in the Zenova FX range are manufactured from steel. At the end of their service life, the cylinders can be recycled as scrap steel once they have been safely decommissioned in accordance with the manufacturer's guidance and applicable regulations.

This can simplify disposal while supporting environmentally responsible waste management.

Supporting Fire Safety Compliance

The combination of routine inspections and digital record keeping can assist organisations with their wider fire safety responsibilities.

Inspection records may be incorporated into:

  • Fire safety audits.
  • Fire risk assessment reviews.
  • Planned maintenance schedules.
  • Health and safety management systems.

Maintaining accurate inspection records helps demonstrate that fire safety equipment is being monitored and managed appropriately.

Key Maintenance Points

  • Carry out annual visual inspections.
  • Use the QR code and mobile app to record inspections and create an audit trail.
  • Arrange an extended service after approximately five years.
  • Continue routine inspections throughout the extinguisher's service life.
  • Recycle the steel cylinder responsibly at the end of its operational life.

Always follow the manufacturer's servicing instructions and the relevant British Standards for portable fire extinguisher maintenance.
