Stop the Bleed Day 2026: Empowering Young People to Save Lives
Stop the Bleed Day 2026: Equip Young People with Life-Saving Skills
Save the Date: 29 April 2026 – Stop the Bleed Day returns as a nationwide initiative to equip children and young people with vital skills that can make the difference between life and death in a bleeding emergency.

Why Stop the Bleed Day Matters
Every year in the UK, thousands of people die from bleeding after injury, yet bleeding remains the leading cause of preventable death following trauma.
Simple actions in the first minutes after an injury can significantly improve someone’s chance of survival before emergency services arrive.
Stop the Bleed Day is a powerful opportunity to teach young people how to:
- Recognise life-threatening bleeding
- Stop a simple bleed
- Pack a wound
- Improvise and apply a tourniquet
These are plain-spoken, evidence-based techniques that could save a life in everyday emergencies – from accidents at home to serious trauma in the community.
What Happens on Stop the Bleed Day
On the day itself, groups of up to 30 young people take part in 30-minute training sessions that combine:
- An engaging instructional video
- Hands-on practical activities
Through these sessions, students gain confidence and competence in bleeding control skills – skills most people never learn at school.
This isn’t just another health week. It’s a nationwide day of action, where schools, youth organisations, and community groups join a collective mission to create a generation of future lifesavers.
Why Your School Should Take Part
Here’s why teachers, headteachers, and youth leaders should sign up:
