IREC® Now Live
The New Replacement for the FROS Course
We’re pleased to announce that the FAQ Level 3 Award in Immediate Response Emergency Care (RQF) – also known as IREC® – is now live and available to deliver.
This new qualification has been introduced as the replacement for the First Response on Scene (FROS) course, which will stop at the end of this month. Moving forward, instructors who previously delivered FROS will need to transition to delivering IREC® instead.
About the Qualification
The FAQ Level 3 Award in Immediate Response Emergency Care (RQF) is a regulated qualification designed for individuals who may be required to provide advanced first aid and immediate emergency care in higher-risk environments.
This qualification is particularly relevant for those working in roles where enhanced emergency response skills are needed, including:
- Security personnel
- Close protection officers
- Event safety teams
- Individuals working in high-risk environments
The course provides learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to respond confidently to medical emergencies before professional medical help arrives.
Course Delivery Options
IREC® is available as a blended learning course, which is the recommended delivery method. This format combines flexible online learning with practical classroom training.
The blended course includes:
- Part 1: Online learning
- Part 2: Classroom-based practical training
For organisations that prefer traditional delivery, IREC® can also be delivered as a classroom-only course.
Instructor Approval
In many cases, instructors who currently teach FROS may be eligible to deliver IREC®. However, approval is required, and instructors must ensure they have been formally approved before delivering the course.
Important Change: Instructor-to-Student Ratios
One of the most significant changes from FROS is the maximum instructor-to-student ratio.
For IREC® courses, the ratio is:
1 instructor to a maximum of 6 students
This is half the number previously permitted for FROS, so instructors should ensure this is taken into account when planning future courses.

We look forward to supporting instructors as they transition to delivering IREC® and continuing to provide high-quality emergency care training.
