Preparing the HeartHero Elliot AED for the Next Emergency

What to Do After the AED Has Been Used

Once the HeartHero Elliot AED has been used during a resuscitation attempt, it is important to prepare the device for future use. This helps ensure the AED is ready, safe and available for the next emergency.

Turn Off the AED After the Rescue

After the resuscitation is complete, turn off the device by pressing and holding the green power button.

If the green light is flashing rapidly, this means the AED may still be transferring event data. This process can take a few minutes.

Do Not Open the Battery Door During Data Transfer

While the green light is flashing rapidly, do not unscrew or remove the battery door.

Opening the battery compartment during this time may interrupt the transfer of important rescue event data. Once the flashing has stopped, normal AED servicing can be carried out.

Replace the Electrode Pads

AED electrode pads are single-use items and must be replaced after the device has been used.

Remove the used pads and fit a new set, making sure they are correctly connected and stored ready for the next emergency.

Replace the Batteries

As the batteries have been used during the rescue, they should also be replaced as part of the post-use servicing process.

To replace the batteries, unscrew the battery cover, remove the old batteries and insert new ones. Make sure the batteries are fitted the correct way round.

Refitting the Battery Cover

When replacing the battery cover, take care not to damage the rubber seal. This seal helps protect the device.

Also make sure the cover is aligned correctly and avoid cross-threading when screwing it back into place.

Run the AED Test Sequence

Once the new pads and batteries have been fitted, restart the unit and allow it to run through its test sequence.

This helps confirm that the AED has returned to a ready state and is prepared for future use.

Final AED Readiness Check

After post-use maintenance has been completed, check that the HeartHero Elliot AED is clean, correctly assembled, accessible and showing that it is ready for use.
