Stimulating the part of the brain which controls movement may improve recovery after a stroke, research suggests

Studies showed firing beams of light into the brains of mice led to the animals moving further and faster than those without the therapy. The research, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, could help explain how the brain recovers and lead to new treatments.  The Stroke Association said the findings were interesting. Strokes can affect memory, movement and the ability to communicate. Brain cells die when their supply of oxygen and sugars is cut off by a blood clot. The UK medicines watchdog is to review the safety of a clot-busting drug often used to treat strokes

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency believes the benefits of alterplase outweigh the risks.  But it is revisiting the evidence. Some experts say previous assessments may have been flawed. The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges welcomed the investigation, saying the review has “huge implications” for patient safety.

Paediatric qualifications changing to level 3 from 1st September

On the 1st September 2014 there are some changes to the Paediatric Qualifications, they are changing from a Level 2 qualification to a Level 3. This will apply to both regulated qualifications and ProTrainings qualifications. The course content is very similar and the contact time in the classroom or blended courses are remaining the same. Course of the week – Food Safety Level 2

Our Food Hygiene course covers all the basics on food preparation, regulations, precautions and care when preparing food for others. It is designed to meet the requirements of various regulations in food preparation and health and safety. The course covers regulations, preparation, storage, infections, cross contamination, reporting, PPE, date marks, reporting illness and basic first aid in the kitchen. The certificate is valid for 3 years and can be taken online or in the classroom with one of our approved instructors.
