More about this course

Allergy Awareness Training for Schools & Workplaces

Our Allergy Awareness course is designed to help education settings and workplaces recognise, prevent, and respond to serious allergic reactions (including anaphylaxis). It is particularly relevant for schools preparing for the new statutory allergy safety requirements due to come into force from September 2026 in England, including expectations around spare adrenaline auto-injectors, staff training, and an allergy policy.

Training is available nationwide as: classroom-based sessions (at training centres or delivered on-site), and a fully online video course hosted on the ProTrainings system.

Why this training matters now

The Department for Education has announced stronger protections for children with allergies, including: stocking spare adrenaline auto-injectors, all-staff allergy awareness training, and a dedicated school allergy/medical conditions policy, with new guidance intended to come into force in September 2026.

Schools already have duties to support pupils with medical conditions under Section 100 of the Children and Families Act 2014. In addition, schools have been permitted since 1 October 2017 to purchase spare adrenaline auto-injectors for emergency use.

What you will learn

  • Understanding allergies: common triggers, risk factors, and how reactions can escalate
  • Recognising anaphylaxis: early and severe signs, and when it is an emergency
  • Immediate response: calling 999, positioning, monitoring, handover information
  • Adrenaline auto-injectors (AAIs): when and how to use them safely, and what to do if symptoms persist
  • Preventing exposure: food sharing, classroom activities, events, and safe routines
  • Planning and documentation: allergy action plans / Individual Healthcare Plans and clear role allocation
  • Safer trips and activities: risk assessment essentials, kit checks, and staff briefing
  • Recording and learning: incident reporting, debriefing, and improving controls

The course reflects recognised UK guidance on emergency response to anaphylaxis, including the importance of prompt adrenaline use and seeking emergency help.

Course formats

1) Classroom / On-site training

  • Delivered at training centres or at your school/workplace

  • Stronger day-to-day controls to reduce avoidable exposures
  • Support for implementing practical policy and planning expectations ahead of September 2026
