This Martyn’s Law Awareness Level 1 (VTQ) course introduces the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 and explains why the legislation was created to improve public safety.   • Explain the purpose of Martyn’s Law and the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025.

  • Describe why the legislation was introduced and the risks associated with terrorism in public places.

  • Identify which venues, organisations and events must comply with the legislation and understand the difference between Standard Tier and Enhanced Tier premises.

  • Outline the basic requirements placed on organisations, including security awareness, public protection procedures and reporting responsibilities.

  • Recognise potential terrorist threats and methods, including explosives, edged weapons, firearms, vehicle attacks and chemical hazards.

  • Identify suspicious behaviour and suspicious items that may indicate a potential threat.

  • Explain the importance of risk assessment and understanding vulnerabilities within premises or events.

  • Describe key security planning principles and the role staff play in maintaining safety and security.

  • Demonstrate awareness of emergency response actions, including procedures such as evacuation, invacuation and lockdown.

  • Explain appropriate actions during an incident, including reporting concerns, contacting emergency services and following recognised guidance such as Run, Hide, Tell.

  • Understand the importance of communication, reporting procedures and individual responsibilities during an incident.

  • Recognise the importance of creating a culture of security and vigilance within organisations and public spaces.
