Abrasive wheel training is aimed at anyone who uses or works near someone using abrasive wheels to understand the responsibilities in the workplace. This is a classroom course and can be taught at one of our instructor's centres or we can arrange onsite courses at your workplace.

Take this course to comply with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment 1998 (PUWER) that all staff who use abrasive wheels receive abrasive wheels training in the safe use of the tools and changing of wheels.  The course also helps managers understand their duties under the regulations.

The General Product Safety Regulations (2005) and new codes of practice have extended the requirements for training to cover abrasive wheel equipment used in the consumer market and include those manufacturing, specifying, selling, purchasing, supervising and using abrasive wheel equipment.

The course covers the following regulations:

  • Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 etc
  • Provision and use of work equipment regulations 1998
  • Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 1992
  • Management of Health and Safety Regulations 1999

This course is aimed at anyone who uses abrasive wheels or employs people who use abrasive wheels as part of their work. There are a wide range of tools and processes that use abrasive wheels and ensuring these are used correctly and safely is of paramount importance. Applications range from hand grinding to disc cutting. They can be used at all stages of a work process, for making preliminary cuts and scores in materials, or for fine polishing and finishing. Different wheels will have different properties and characteristics suitable for particular tasks. They also have different weaknesses and can pose different risks and hazards in handling and use. For this reason, it’s important that you always select the right abrasive wheel for the job and use it with the right machinery.

The content of this and all our courses has been independently certified as conforming to universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines and come with a Certified CPD Statement as well as a ProTrainings Certificate and for online courses an Evidence Based Learning statement.
