In other course videos we have, we will look at different injuries and accidents people have and we will use first aid kits. But in this film, we will have a look at, just generally, about first aid kits. Now, there are lots of different kits on the market. We actually manufacture kits. We do kits for very specialist markets, and these particular ones here are workplace based kits. This is a trauma kit. You can have kits in different colored boxes. We do them for just about everything; marines, agriculture, driving and all sorts of different things. We even make purpose made kits. But basically, when you have a first aid kit, it has got everything in it. So either you buy from us, or you can buy from anywhere, or you might already have a first aid kit. But the key things to look at is, does it meet what you need? Now, generally in the home, most first aid kits will be absolutely fine. You will be able to deal with most first aid injuries there. The things you may not be able to deal with are when you are looking at more serious, but we are going to have a look at those in a minute. So the actual kits themselves, depends on the design. Typically you have got a plastic box, although we also do these pouches. This is a trauma one. But these are good because you can get them, they are nice and clean, and also they seal. We can even heat seal them at the top if necessary. And we do those for human first aid, pet first aid and all sorts of different subjects. But basically within the contents of it, then they are very, very similar in what they will have. So you will have things like plasters, which are quite straightforward to use, bandages, dressing, gloves, foil blankets to keep warm. Some kits will then go on and have eye wash pods, so you can flush anything out of your eyes, or clean wounds and things like that. Different size dressings, wipes, so you can wipe down. They are either antiseptic or saline wipes. So there are lots of different components within the kit. So generally if you are looking to buy a kit, then in the home, mostly a basic kit is necessary. When we are looking at workplace type kits, then you would have something like this, which is what they call the BSI kit but you can use these in the home as well. They are a good, comprehensive, first aid kit. So things that are not in them. There are some sort of mishap with first aid and changes around over the years. One thing that was not in there were scissors. Well, they are back in, because it is important to cut away clothing from an injury site. So, if you had to deal with something more on the level of trauma, so if you are looking at some of the tourniquet, then that is something we can always add to these kits if you need to, but they are not generally in a first aid kit. But also worth considering, some other substances that might be good to prevent bleeding. So these will just put a bandage over a bleed, but there are things called hemostatic dressings, just something like wound clot, has a low price tag to it but very, very effective in stopping serious and minor bleeds. But also if someone has got a really bad bleed, you can put that onto the wound and it will form a gel-like substance, which will actually stop the bleed itself. And then you can use these dressings. So you can make a first aid kit better. So for example, if you have already got a kit at home, then maybe look at the Tourni-Key, which is a citizenAID product, which is a tourniquet, or a commercial tourniquet, or definitely put something like wound clot in them. Now, your pet is also member of the family. So you can have bespoke pet kits; we do them, have a whole range of them. Or you can adapt and add extra bits into your kit. So things in the pet kit will be different. Maybe some cohesive bandage, or tick removers, or again, WoundClots or Collaclots to actually stop any major bleeds or minor bleeds. They can be very, very stressful for the animal. So generally speaking, it's a really good idea to have a first aid kit. Have one in your home. Maybe also have one in the car or if you are in a caravan or boating, you can have one in those as well. Keep a check on it. Look at all the products. Look at when the first of the products in the kit is going to expire. Now, if you have got expired products in your first aid kit, it just means that they are not guaranteeing that they are sterile. But if you have got a nasty bleed, putting an unsterile dressing on is better than nothing at all. So do not worry too much about it, but you do want to change them over. So with these kits, you can either just buy a complete new inside and just throw that away, put a new one in. Or look at the dates and just buy the individual items you want. The same with the pouches we do. You can just literally change one item over or multiple items. If you need any more information on the kits themselves, please contact us.
