NHS 111 operates 24\/7, 365 days per year and is free to use from a landline and a mobile.<\/p>\n<h3>When to use it<\/h3>\n<p>You should use the NHS 111 service if you urgently need medical help or advice but it\u2019s not a life-threatening situation.\u00a0Call 111 if:<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You need medical help fast but it\u2019s not a 999 emergency<\/li>\n<li>You think you need to go to\u00a0A&amp;E\u00a0or need another NHS urgent care service<\/li>\n<li>You don\u2019t know who to call or you don\u2019t have a GP to call<\/li>\n<li>You need health information or reassurance about what to do next<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For less urgent health needs, contact\u00a0your GP\u00a0or\u00a0local pharmacist\u00a0in the usual way. \u00a0If a health professional has given you a specific phone number to call when you are concerned about your condition, continue to use that number. \u00a0 \u00a0For immediate, life-threatening emergencies, continue to call 999.<\/p>\n<h3>How does it work?<\/h3>\n<p>The NHS 111 service is staffed by a team of fully trained advisers, supported by experienced nurses. They will ask you questions to assess your symptoms, then give you the healthcare advice you need or direct you straightaway to the local service that can help you best. That could be A&amp;E, an\u00a0out-of-hours\u00a0doctor, an\u00a0urgent care centre\u00a0or a\u00a0walk-in centre, a community nurse, an\u00a0emergency dentist\u00a0or a late-opening chemist.<\/p>\n<p>Where possible, the NHS 111 team will book you an appointment or transfer you directly to the people you need to speak to. \u00a0\u00a0If NHS 111 advisers think you need an\u00a0ambulance, they will immediately arrange for one to be sent to you. \u00a0\u00a0Calls to 111 are recorded.
